Situated
in the south west corner of Block Island's Great Salt Pond,
Champlin's is one of the north east's busiest and largest
marina resorts. In order to properly operate the resort, it
takes quite a few highly trained and motivated employees,
committed to providing the best customer experience possible
for our guests.
We are currently looking
for individuals to fill resort positions for the 2007
season. Listed below are some of the positions that we are

Maintenance Technician
We are currently seeking a Maintenance Technician who
will be responsible for helping to maintain the resort’s buildings,
docks, and equipment. Duties will include electrical repairs or
installations (when no license is required), plumbing, carpentry,
painting, masonry, machine servicing, foundation or concrete, and
general mechanical maintenance. Candidates must be able to use a variety
of skilled trade tools in safe and proper manner. We need an individual
who is not only flexible in their skills and abilities but also is able
to play a versatile role as a member of our staff. This position must
be filled by someone who is able to accept direction on one project but
who will be able to direct and work with others on another project.
This member of the staff will be
relied upon to trouble shoot, repair, modify, and perform routine
preventative maintenance on the buildings, Docks, Equipment, Fixtures,
and all other Systems which comprise the physical infrastructure of the
resort. This position will also require an individual who is able assist
in the movement of furniture, materials, and equipment when needed. All
work needs to be performed in accordance with established safety
procedures as to take precautions as not to endanger the safety of one’s
self, fellow employees, or our guests. Due to the short duration of the
season it is imperative to recognize that we can not abide any down
time. Due to our need to have problems fixed promptly and properly we
need an individual who will be able to make them self available through
out the season 24/7. There will be a set schedule and a standardized
work week but this position comes with great responsibility and as such
we need some one who can be “on call” in cases of an emergency and who
understands some times extra hours will have to be put in to accomplish
a project.
Head Cook / Kitchen Manager
Description:
Supervises, coordinates, and participates in activities of cooks and
other kitchen personnel engaged in preparing and cooking foods in the
kitchen of an active and busy resort kitchen. Prepares, seasons, and
cooks soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs for
consumption. Estimates food consumption and requisitions or purchases
foodstuffs from vendors. Receives and examines foodstuffs and supplies
to ensure quality and quantity meet established standards and
specifications. May help to select and develop recipes based on type of
food to be prepared and applying personal knowledge and experience in
food preparation. Cooks or otherwise prepares food according to recipes.
Portions cooked foods, or gives instructions to workers as to size of
portions and methods of garnishing. Will employ, train, and may
participate in the discharge of workers. Will maintain time and payroll
records for restaurant employees. Will help plan menus. Will supervise
kitchen staff, help plan menus, purchase foodstuffs, and prepare and
cook foods. Must also be able to substitute for and relieve or assist
other cooks during emergencies or rush periods.
Job Requirements:
At least 3 to 5 years working in a commercial restaurant kitchen. At
least 2 years as manager. References required. Salary based on
experience ($900.00 – $1100.00 a Week).
Cook Helper / Line Cook
Job Description:
Assists workers engaged in preparing foods for busy resort restaurant
kitchen by performing any combination of following duties: Washes,
peels, cuts, and seeds vegetables and fruits. Cleans, cuts, and grinds
meats, poultry, and seafood. Dips food items in crumbs, flour, and
batter to bread them. Stirs and strains soups and sauces. Weighs and
measures designated ingredients. Carries pans, kettles, and trays of
food to and from work stations, stove, and refrigerator. Stores foods in
designated areas, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and
food spoilage. Cleans work areas, equipment and utensils, segregates and
removes garbage and steam cleans or hoses garbage containers.
Distributes supplies, utensils, and portable equipment.
Job Requirements:
At least 1 to 2 years experience in a commercial restaurant Kitchen.
Pay based on experience ($9.00 to $12.00 an hour).
Bar Manager
Description: Will be responsible for supervising bar staff and business operations at
multiple bars located on the Resort while Maintaining a Management
Presence in a fast paced High Volume atmosphere. Responsibilities will
include taking inventory; building working relationships with vendors,
training Bar Staff, and maintaining proper cleanliness and safety
standards in a high hospitality oriented business.
Job Requirements:
A minimum of 2 yr. experience in bar management is preferred but previous
experience as a supervisor required. Excellent beverage knowledge,
hospitality skills, a well rounded understanding of employee relations,
and the ability to work all shifts while still being able to maintain a
flexible schedule are all requisites for this position. Previous Resort
Experience a plus.
Bar Tenders
Description:
Takes orders from customers and
prepares cocktails and other drinks for which they then will collect
payment. Must have the ability to mix and pour a high volume of drinks
in a short period of time. People in this position are responsible for
the regular stocking of liquors and others supplies in several different
bars and storerooms located on the Resort. This critical aspect of the
job is done periodically through out the course of a typically week but
also before and after a typical shift. Other duties include but are not
limited to arranging bottles, maintaining the cleanliness of the bars,
both inside and out, preparing garnishes and pre-mixed product.
Bartenders are also responsible for the set-up, operation of, and break
down of special event bars for any number of private functions which the
Resort will host through out the course of the summer season.
Job Requirements:
Candidates should have at least 1+ years of experience behind a busy and
fully stocked bar. While performing the duties of this job, the staff
Member is regularly required to stand, crouch, bend over, and regularly
lift items in excess of 10 pounds and sometimes as much as 25 pounds. A
strong knowledge of drink recipes as well as a hardworking and outgoing
attitude will lead to success in this position.
Dock Staff
Description:
Seasonal
Position focused on delivering quality customer service to all of our
Customers at the Resort. Duties include but are not limited to aiding
guests while docking and departing the marina, assisting customers
during the registration process, and helping customers with fuel sales.
The general upkeep of the resort including the docks, grounds, and all
shore side facilities are also a responsibility of the dock staffs'.
Job Requirements:
Candidates must be able to maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance.
Dockhands are expected to be able to work a flexible schedule. The
Ability to work in a fast paced environment while being able to follow
direction and communicate well with others is a plus. This is a
demanding full-time position but also a very rewarding one for those who
embrace hard work with a strong work ethic. Experience is a plus but not
necessary as we will train the dock staff to perform the many different
functions for which they will be expected to complete through out their
employment. This job does require the ability to assert a degree of
strength, must be able to lift over 80 pounds easily.
Office Staff
Description:
A position in the office means
working in a fast paced and detailed oriented atmosphere. The Office
staff is responsible for taking reservations for both the Hotel and the
Marina. This process generally begins over the phone so strong verbal
communication ability is critical. There are other clerical functions
that the office staff performs to help ensure that the resort runs
smoothly aside from the reservation process. Office staff members also
are responsible for checking guest in and help to convey a strong
impression upon our guest of all the different activities that the
Resort offers while always maintaining a pleasant and hospitable
demeanor.
Job Requirements:
One year of hotel/resort reception experience preferred, however not
required. Must be energetic and self oriented. Must be able to work in a
fast paced environment, detail oriented, and be able to work a flexible
schedule. Computer experience a plus in Word and Excel. Excellent verbal
communication skills are required in order to communicate with
co-workers and guests, both in person and over the phone.
