Block Island Race Week

Champlin’s Marina and Resort welcomes back Block Island Race Week for their 29th anniversary from June 21-25, 2021!

Going Back to Where it All Began

As the new owners of Champlin’s Marina and Resort, we are deeply honored to welcome back all the sailors of this time honored tradition that is Block Island Race Week! When Race Week first began in 1965, it was tradition for sailors to sleep on their boats, creating a special camaraderie between friends and competitors right here on Champlin’s docks. Today, whether you’re sleeping on your vessel, taking a break from the berth at our newly renovated 46-room boutique hotel, or sipping on mudslides at Pier 76 Dock Bar (Block Island’s only over the water dock bar), you’ll enjoy all the amenities and post-racing social events here at Champlin’s, Block Island Race Week’s official headquarters. Our spacious 9-acres of outdoor space allows sailors, boating enthusiasts, and spectators to gather, sip on post-race cocktails, and celebrate a day of being on the water across our sprawling lawns and newly constructed plaza. We look forward to welcoming all volunteers, racers, sponsors, and guests this June!

The History of Block Island Race Week

Hosted every other year by Storm Trysail Club, this private club with over 1000 individual members is known for their long history of sponsoring inshore, distance, and offshore sailboat races, and supporting the interests and needs of sailors. Rooted in racing traditions on Cowes Island, England, Block Island Race Week evolved from the desire to share racing experiences with other sailors - a week where all participants could come together to share stories, exchange knowledge, tips, and tricks, and of course, sip mudslides in celebration.

The first Race Week in 1965 attracted more than 175 boats and 1,200 sailors, and was an immediate success. Now celebrating its 29th year, Block Island Race Week is the largest big boat regatta in the Northeast, and one of the most prestigious regattas in the United States. It attracts some of the world’s best sailors who compete in the latest offshore one-designs, grand-prix, and cruiser-racer designs.
